What a great action shot! Lurline has managed to capture a great moment that we are completely drawn into. The way the surfer has his body positioned and the way the image has been framed work in harmony like a perfectly timed musical score.
The interesting thing about the image is the colour of the water. In the foreground we see a lovely aqua green and in the background we have the advantage of enjoying a lovely crisp blue. Ironically the brown of the surfers top matches these colours really well. This is an example of how tonal range can work very well in your images, and, just how important colour is.
The surfers extended arm assists in leading our eye into the frame. It’s complimentary lines like this that can work effectively to bring the viewers eyes to where we want them to go. This can work with just about any subject as long as it
correlates to the subject in someway. If this technique is not applied correctly, it can hinder the visual enjoyment and become a distraction.
This image is a perfect example of how less is more. When a photo has less elements in it there is less distraction and confusion. Bringing the elements to a point where they support the subject is a clever way to create a moving image, and one you can get emotionally involved in. It’s always best to have less subjects in your photos.
Well done Lurline!
