Theme : “Eyes”

Not only do we focus on the eyes straight away, but the eyes are supported by the bold, bright colour around the eyes themselves. In fact the colours help draw us in to the eyes.
You can’t beat studio lighting. The top lighting with close to daylight temperature (even though a little on the cool side) proves to be a winning component of this photo. With a lighting ratio of 1:1 (same on each side) the light is spread evenly across this photo, flattening out the face and providing nice beauty lighting. The catch lights in her eyes work well and help us keep attention on her eyes, which are the focal point of this photo.
The perspective is nice and there is no barrel distortion in the image. The viewpoint is close which works well for portraits. If I have any suggestions at all it would be perhaps to try a silver umbrella rather than a softbox, it spreads the light more evenly and reduces light fall-off around the edges of the face.
Great work Joy and we look forward to seeing further work from you in the future.

Thank you very much for taking the time to submit your photos. You have done a great job. We have a limitation of one Winner and 8 finalists photos. This is due to the wonderful success and popularity of Focus Ezine and that we are now getting a large number of entries each month. If you don’t see yours here it’s not because we didn’t like it, it’s simply because of space limitations.
Please add your comments about any of these great photo efforts at the bottom of the page.
