October 2011: Photo Comp Results

Winning Photo

Theme : “Dizzy Heights”

Nikon D40, lens: Nikkor 55-200 zoom

Why Elena won:

Unfortunately Elena has not given us enough exif data- which is a shame because we would have loved to have known how this photo was shot.

We loved the way Elena was high enough to shoot this and give us the perspective of being way up high. The placement of the single balloon in the right hand side, coupled with the presence of the sea of houses in the background was so effective. The long stretch of road to the left hand side really added depth and dimension. It even added, dare I say it, an aspect of something almost hazardous…as if the Balloon had to be careful not to sink to the ground near the cars. This was a very effective technique indeed.

The wonderful light works very well. The soft light casting soft angles and shadow lines all over the photo gave an extra dimension of interest we thought.

Well done! Such a terrific photo!

P.S If you didn’t win, it’s not because we didn’t like your photo. Every photo on this page is a beauty. We love all of them. We want to extend a big “thank you” to everyone whose work is contributed each month. We are very proud of you.

Special Mention Entries:

(Simply click on a photo to enlarge and see camera data.)

Thank you very much for taking the time to submit your photos. You have done a great job. We have a limitation of one Winner and 8 finalists photos. This is due to the wonderful success and popularity of Focus Ezine and that we are now getting a large number of entries each month. If you don’t see yours here it’s not because we didn’t like it, it’s simply because of space limitations.

* Please note the photographer for the wonderful shot of  “On top of a mountain – Argentina”, finalist 8,  was actually by Margie McClelland. I’m sorry for the error caused in the naming of the Photo. Paul Roberts.

Please add your comments to any of these great photo efforts at the bottom of the page.
