Theme : “White”

Zandra’s photo of this white winter wonderland is wonderful. Zandra has managed to incorporate a landscape in with this month’s theme of “white”. The shape of the foreground give us a sense of how huge the landscape is. The people in the foreground successfully convey the size of the place. This use of “sense of scale” has been used beautifully.
The image is divided in two parts- the front and back. They both support a sense of scale and openess. The viewpoint has captured the depth of the land and given us an idea of what might be going on. The coloured clothing of the people in the foreground also help to add a sense of colour balance, that is, the yellow stands out well against the white and blue in the image.
I find the ship really interesting too. At first glance I find myself questioning “does the presence of the ship mean tourism or industry?” The boat really changes the meaning of the image and allows us to question what’s going on at a deeper level.
