June 2012: Focus Comp Results

Winning Photo

Theme : “Urban Life”

Canon G12,  f8, 1/20, ISO 800

Photographed at “DJs Centre ” in Brisbane.

Why Bob won:

I’ve been watching Bobs fantastic photographic progress over the past few months. He has been getting better and better and I am very proud to award him the winning photo this month. We both love this photo for three main reasons.

The angle of view/vantage point is just superb. The symmetry in this photo was original and clever. It almost feels as people cannot see us, from where we are, up above the escalator. It really does give us the sense of being invisible as we watch people go out their daily lives.

We loved how Bob slowed down the shutter speed and blurred the people but had good lighting and exposure on the rest of the photo. It was very effective and a terrific effect for photography. It’s not always easy to do and he has mastered this technique perfectly.

The blueish hue from the light coming from outside works very nicely with the warm light on the inside. The two hues work together really well without being distracting or opposing.

All these elements combined, make up a wonderful photograph.

Well done Bob, a big congratulations from us both!

This is due to the wonderful success and popularity of Focus Ezine and that we are now getting a large number of entries each month. If you don’t see yours here it’s not because we didn’t like it, it’s simply because of space limitations.

Next Month’s (July) Theme:

“My Life”

The closing date is the 25th of June 2012

For the next competition we want to see something from your life that means something to you. Whether it be a tree you pass on the way to work every morning that you stop and stare at, or perhaps your beloved children or family. Next month’s theme will focus on what is important to you in your life. What do you see in your life every day that you cherish? And why do you love it? Is it the colour? Is it the sound? Is it a person?

To give you an example, here is something that is very dear to my heart. It’s a place, not far from where we live, that has beautiful water, boats, and a changing tide. It’s magnificent and many people love it. It means a lot to me because it helps me relax.

Hearty congratulations Bob on your win with this amazing capture. It is so creative and beautifully portrayed. I love the way you have slowed the shutter speed to create a sense of activity and motion in this photo. A perfect vantage point. Well done to you, and congratulations once again. :) Chris

Very nice image, indeed, Bob! I agree w/everything that’s already been said, with one addition: The circle on the lower floor adds an interesting contrast to all the hard lines and angles. In connection with that wonderful motion/blur, the circle also keeps the image from becoming static. Congratulations on your win …. well done!
