July 2012: Focus Comp Results

Winning Photo

Theme : “My Life”

“This photos was taken on my favourite stretch of the Swan River in Perth.  I drive past here every day on my way to work and depending on the conditions usually take a photo as the river and the light change from day to day.  This was a particularly calm morning – just waiting to be photographed.  Living close to the river is delightful and I try and walk around here (with my camera) whenever I can.  It is a very important contributor to my well being…”

Why Shirley won:

What a beautiful photo!

We loved the way Shirley was able to capture such a gentle and serene scene. The gentle light combined with the composition worked so well. The ripples of the water complimented the boats in the subdued light. Shirley had created a very sharp photo. Sharpness like this always looks great with partially silhouetted images. In fact if this photo was blurry or out of focus the semi silhouette effect just would not work. We can really see why this scene is a big part of Shirley’s life.

Congratulations Shirley, you have done a wonderful job.

Congratulations Shirley on winning the Photo Competition with this amazing entry. It is a stunning capture, and one that I really love. There is something very special about boats and water – Swan River is a place I would dearly love to see. I have a friend who lives nearby, and have heard so much about it. Well done. Chris :)
